Electro-permanent Lifting Magnet Stand Out of Three? You Decide
Handling most ferrous metals,(say steel, cast iron, carbon steel, etc.) depends on lifting magnets. There are three main types of magnetic lifting devices on the market: permanent magnet, electromagnet, and electro-permanent lifting magnet. Today we will talk about them three briefly. And you decide what to choose.
Permanent magnet: working principle and application
The permanent magnetic lifter is suitable for handling ordinary steel plates, iron blocks, and cylindrical iron materials. The permanent magnet uses high-performance magnetic material. And it is small in size, lightweight, and has a strong magnetic force. In addition, the cost is relatively low. All this makes it prevail in the market and known to almost everyone.
At present, the permanent magnet is divided into the manual type and the automatic type. The manual type’s handle switch has a safety button. One-handed operation is possible, so it is simple and convenient. A manual type is a lifting tool for a light-weighted load. Say 10-50KG sheet metal or iron block. Automatic type, you do not need to pull the handle manually. Rather, it is controlled through an electric crane, which is a physical structure to achieve switching of the magnetic field. The lifting capacity is also not so big.
Electromagnet: working principle and application
The electromagnetic lifter is also widely used to carry steel. It is a solenoid technology that needs a steady and continuous electric current to generate a stable magnetic field and clamping force. When the current is disconnected, the magnetism will immediately disappear and the adsorbed workpiece will fall.
The dependence on electricity can also be its limitation due to safety hazards. And so usually it needs a magnetic relay system in case of a blackout to maintain the daily use. Because of a relatively low price, the electromagnet is often seen lifting scrap steel. Besides, people also use it to handle heavy-load steel plates on the port and terminal, in warehouses, in structural fabrication, and steel mills.
Electro permanent lifting magnet: working principle and application
The biggest characteristic of the electro-permanent magnet is that it needs electricity only to magnetize and demagnetize the magnet. Once activated, the magnet will not lose magnetic force and will keep clamping the workpiece in case of power-off. So it is safe and energy-saving. More than that, it contains two kinds of rare earth magnet materials: AlNiCo and Nd2Fe14B. So it also has a strong magnetic force.
Electro permanent magnet has also been widely used in many working stations: steel sheet loading and unloading for the cutting table, ferrous metal handling as robot arm tools, profiles lifting in construction machinery manufacturing, etc. There has an electro-permanent lifting magnet with a battery supply so that you don’t have to connect the cable wire.

If you need one for ferrous material handling, you can choose one based on your specific needs and budget. Whether the electro-permanent lifting magnet stands out of the three, it’s your answer depending on many specific factors.
